Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Prox Card?

A prox card, also known as a proximity card or a key card is a contactless smart card used to unlock a door. As an essential part of the Physical Access Control System, prox cards are held at a card reader to gain access to a designated area of a building or premises. These access badges are made up of PVC plastic and have multiple configurations.

How Does It Work?

A proximity card uses a low 125 kHz radio frequency to transmit data to a door access reader. When we place a card on the prox card reader, the unique sequence of numbers attached to the card is passed to the access control panel. Once the number is verified with the internal database, the control panel sends a signal back to the reader to unlock the door.
